On Mar 5, 2025, Delta Airlines shared a new design of its aircraft that shows a glimpse of the future of air travel. Delta Airlines partnered with JetZero, a California-based start-up, and made a design that is more fuel efficient and comes with a Blended-body-wing (BWB) to elevate customers' travel experience and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

As per JetZero, this new plane design has a lightweight airframe that can lift up to 250 passengers and offer a quieter journey because of its build structure and engine placement. The partnership will build a full-scale demonstrator for Delta's maiden flight after receiving a grant from the US Air Force, and it is expected that it will be done by 2027.

Delta Airlines would provide operational expertise to JetZero to help them design the aircraft's interior cabin, which would be enhanced and improved, including overhead bin space, accessible seats, and lavatories, without compromising the main goal, which is to run the plane on sustainable aviation fuel.

Delta’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Amelia DeLuca, said, “Working with JetZero to realize an entirely new airframe and experience for customers and employees is bold and important work to advance the airline industry’s fuel-saving initiatives and innovation goals,” They added, “While Delta is focused on doing what we can today to address our carbon footprint, it’s critical we also work with a variety of partners to advance revolutionary technologies, like JetZero’s blended-wing-body aircraft, to solve for a significant portion of future aviation emissions.”

JetZero's cofounder and CEO, Tom O’Leary, said, "JetZero is working to change the world by bringing to market an aircraft that aims to fly this decade and make immediate and marked progress toward reducing airline energy costs, and the associated emissions," Moreover, the added to his statement that "The ability to realize such significant efficiency gains in the near future meaningfully impacts the industry’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and will serve as the foundation on which other technologies and efficiencies can be realized. Delta was one of the first carriers to partner with us, supporting us behind the scenes since 2023, and we look forward to their continued support of our program through their deep knowledge and expertise."

Delta Airlines believes that with Delta Airline New Plane Design, it can achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and make the future of aviation and travel more sustainable and eco-friendly, and passengers do not have to suffer.
