It has become one of the most searched government projects nowadays. This article will explain this mega project, its cost, and other details.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made a special announcement that they will be building a new Expressway that connects Bangalore and Mangalore, which are two of Karnataka’s megacities. The ministry has also added that the cities will be connected via Hassan, which will provide convenience to the residents and boost economic activities.
When the ministry provided the details, it said the expressway is likely to significantly reduce the traveling time between these two cities. The ministry shared the approximated time, which says if one uses the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Expressway, their travel time will be reduced by 7–8 hours. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Karnataka Public Works Department jointly undertake this mega expressway project.
Megacities are highly affected by road traffic, which is why the main goal of building this expressway is to decongest the traffic in the outer regions of Bengaluru. The total distance of the expressway would be around 335 km with four to six lanes. The width of the lane has not been disclosed, but it would be broader enough to significantly affect the travel duration and reduce it by 7–8 hours.
However, this mega expressway project is scheduled to begin in 2028. The month of inauguration has not been disclosed, but it is expected to be completed in a few months. So, for nearly three years, people in these cities have had to wait until they can use the expressway. Once the expressway is completed and open for everyone, then, as per the officials, it will become a game changer for the transportation sector.
Last week, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated in his statement how it will be tough to resolve the traffic issue of Bengaluru in the coming years. They quoted in his statement that “even God himself cannot do anything within the next one, two, or three years,” as ANI said.
This new mega expressway project comes with the hope that it will help in decongesting the traffic of Bengaluru moderately and also help in creating new job opportunities. However, since the project will begin in 2028, so the people of Bengaluru and Mangalore will have to wait and suffer until then.
